Along with a growing concern on indoor air quality, it becomes more and more important to take investigations and research about indoor air pollutants, like: volatile organic compounds VOCs, microbial, particulate matter, formaldehyde and ozone. This paper chosed special representative confined spaces as study objects, summarized the total character of indoor air pollutants and its influence factors, provided reference for controlling and management of pollutants.The study setted sampling points in the library stack room of a university and the exchequer of a bank and sampled indoor air for several times. We tested VOCs concentration by PTR-MS, GC/MS, GC-900; microbial amount by natural subside and dash method; formaldehyde, ozone and particles by online analytic machine. We also investigated emitting rules of books by simulating the stack room environment in the environment chamber.This paper discussed emit sources in the stack room and exchequer, and get conclusion of pollutants characters and emit rules like: the VOCs concentration in the confined spaces are generally high, approaching or exceeding standard six-fold, in which the toxicity VOC compounds superscalar seriously. The concentrations of microbial, particles, formaldehyde, ozone are within standard limits. The stack room rise to maximal in 15h after closed; components in the environment chamber were the same with the stack room, for instance: unsaturated alkane, ether, aldehyde propylene, acrolein, ether vinylicus and so on. It proved that these compounds were emitted from books.The research also makes principles, characteristics, corporation methods comparative between PTR-MS and GC/MS. Through analyzing indoor air pollutants-VOCs, we discussed advantages and disadvantages of these two instruments.In the end, basis on the result of this research mentioned above, we suggested that further investigation of indoor air pollutants control should be in the direction of developing analytic machines, excogitating depurate measuremenst and establishing quality standard.
