Mold powder is a silicate - based form containing a variety of flux and skeletal material functional materials. Flux in the mold play the role of which prevents liquid steel from the secondary oxidation, insulates heat, absorbs inclusion, uniforms heat transfer, lubrication billet. And it is one of the key materials to promote the development of continuous casting technology, guarantee continuous casting process ante-grade and slab quality. Now with the casting speed continues to improve, billet varieties continues to expand, the quality requirements of the slab rising mold powder of various physical and chemical properties of the continuous casting process ante-grade and quality of billet and more important, mold powder become one of the constraints of casting technology development in the future.This article study on the relationship between properties and composition of mold flux at first, which is mainly composed (including various trace elements, alkali metal oxides, melting rate adjustment etc) on some properties (such as melting temperature, melting rate, viscosity, crystallization temperature) the impact of the discussion. Then focus on the heat transfer performance of the study, analysis of the residue to protect the thermal conductivity. interfacial thermal resistance to the effects of factors. Finally a simple flux forecast the future direction of development, that is, to meet the high-speed casting, suitable for ultra-low carbon steel production. suitable for the needs of environmental protection.The purpose of writing this paper is to study the relationship between flux composition and the properties and then draw some conclusions, including the formation of the impact and performance of various protection features of the slag, want to develop mold flux which have reasonable composition according these characteristics and impact, for provide some help to the development of casting technology.
