For the fossil energy cannot regenerate, there is an emerging crisis in the modern society now. Heavy oil will be given priority to the oil's exploitation in the future. As a novel kind of catalyst and solvent, ionic liquids (ILs) have many characteristic, and it also accords with the new concept of green chemistry. ILs can be used in the prospective exploitation of oil, especially in the exploitation of the unconventional oil energy sources, such as heave oil, tar sand and oil shale sources.Three types of ILs, [EPy]PF6 ,[EPy]Br·FeCl3, [EPy]Br·NiCl2 have been synthesized; and their compositions have been analyzed. Optimized the condition of preparation, such as reaction temperature, reaction time, composition of reactant. Research the influence of oil viscosity caused by the composition, addition, reaction time. Three types of ILs have a good effect of reducing the viscosity of heavy oil. The best one is [EPy]Br·NiCl2. The best condition for reducing viscosity is: 0.4 mole ratio, addition 5wt%, and reaction time 18 hours, reaction temperature 80 degree. By analyzing the composition, we know the content of light hydrocarbon increases. These hybrid atoms such as S,N,O decrease in the heavy oil apparently. Research the influence of hydrogen supporter to the reaction of modifying property. In conclusion, it's useful to hold the viscosity and supply the hydrogen. Based on the result of experiments; we research the mechanism of property modification. This will become an useful theoretic reference for the future work. Through the experiment, the transition metallic ionic liquid works on the property modification of heavy oil obviously.
