Gas pressure welding is a important rail welding method with the merits of convenience, low costs and high performance. In order to ensure the welding quality, it is necessary to collect and record the data of welding process. Welding Institute of Southwest Jiaotong University have developed a small size digital controlled gas pressure welding machine for rail welding. This machine includes a data acquisition system based on a notebook PC. The data acquisition system has some defects while using. To overcome these defects, this paper developed a data acquisition system base on a single chip and the USB control technology.The system uses the single chip AT89C55WD. It can process four analog input signals which ranges from 0V to 5V depend on the A/D converter ADS7822. Via RS422 interface, the data acquisition system can communicate with PLC.Through the simulation use of the system, it shows that the design have met the desired goals and has the following features and benefits: Firstly, it has the ability to capture and store the data of the process of pressure welding, what's more it can printing caves based on the data. Secondly, compared to the original system, this data acquisition system is merit in lightweight , low-cost and more stable because of basing on a single chip. Thirdly the software for the system is developed by C language and build up in modulars, so it is easy to read and convenient to upgrade.
