With the exploitation of the oil & gas field in ocean, polar, desert and offshore, multiphase pipelines Obtain continual development. Slug flow which appears in many operating conditions (normal operation, start, shutdown, transmission change, etc.) is a common flow pattern of multiphase flow. The slug out of control will generate forceful impact on downstream processing equipments. For this reason, a liquid-receiving facility known as a slug catcher is always connected to a multiphase pipeline in the terminal. This paper mainly studies multiple-pipe slug catcher.In this paper, the procedure of designing a slug catcher will be given. When design a vessel type slug catcher, the requirement in this process that gas can separate from liquid and liquid can separate from gas should be satisfied. Dynamic simulation was used in optimizing the slug catcher structure. The Design and research work of a multiple-pipe slug catcher was carried out based on the design of vessel slug catcher.The research work of Slug characteristics mainly include slug frequency, slug velocity and slug length. is carried out by indoor experiments. Those slug characteristic parameters can be obtained through calculating the experimental data which includes pressure data and differential pressure data by utilizing the correlation and other mathematical methods.The performance of the multiple-pipe slug catcher is verified by indoor tests. The pressure and liquid level in the slug catcher was studied by varying the conditions of slug entrance. The tests indicate that the pressure and liquid level variations remained within the acceptable limits. Then, the multiple-pipe slug catcher can eliminate the impact of slug preferably.
