Coal resource is very rich in China, especially like lignite, weathering coal and other low-rank coal. They all have low level coal rank and a large number of original plant organizational structures. But their direct burning efficiency is low and their industrial value is not very high. Nowadays biotechnology has widely used in research about coal processing, combustion, conversion and control environmental pollution programs and so on, and the research on biotechnology degradation conversion coal is an important one of them.In this study, experiments have been done at the basis of concluded the researches on biodegradation of coal and expatiated the significance of microbial degradation of low-rank coal, feasibility was also been discussed. Considered the structural characteristics of coal, we choose the fungus which has a strong biodegradable ability called white rot fungi. We used the better one of them, researched the degradation rate of coal and the impacts of different culture conditions factors. After that with the analysis of coal and product, try to identify the degradation initial mechanism of the fungi to low-rank coal.Experiment selected the dominant white rot fungi called 5900 by plate decolorization of Azurb B, and also its biological properties were been tested. Then used it systematic tested the impacts of different culture conditions factors concluded pretreatment, training days, initial pH value, types of coal, amount of fungi and so on. Through perpendicular experiment got the best training conditions of degradation, and the significant degree of every factor. Among them the types of coal factor is the most significant.In order to know the characteristics of degradation products and the degradation mechanism of the fungi to low-rank coal, we used some kinds of modern testing techniques such as element analysis, FTIR, XRD, TG and so on to compare the characters of original coal, blank sample and the residue after degradation. The results show that the structure and combustion characteristics of lignite had been changed after the degradation. The process of producing the enzymes in the white rot fungi plays the major role in the degradation of the macromolecules like original plant organizational structures in lignin.Study shows that white rot fungi not only can effective changed the structures in the degradation of low-rank coal, and also feature to optimize coal quality and combustion. The fungi also has application in such areas as the flotation of coal.
