High-speed cutting tools are important components in high-speed machining technology. Cutting edge has important effects on the high-speed cutting process. Especially when metal removal circumstances are small, cutting edge decides the chip formation and the thermal-stress distribution of cutting process to some extent. In recent years, with the social needs, development of science and technology, and products having small quantities and frequent replacement, it becomes the people's concern to design and manufacture tools with reasonable cutting edge fast and accurately. In this paper, researches on reconstruction techniques of high speed cutter's edge are completed based on the existing theory of high-speed cutter's edge and curve reconstruction.On the basis of the impact of high-speed cutter's edge on cutting process, the structural characteristics of high-speed cutter's edge are analyzed and features of cutting edge are extracted.This paper puts forward a reconstruction method of high-speed cutting edge. It includes that using POS optical three-dimensional point cloud measuring system to acquire inserts'points and using the discrete idea to acquire feature points of the cutting edge. Then, parametric and geometric continuity of cutting edge and least-square fitting theory are analyzed in this paper.At last, by means of high-performance CNC machine tools and advanced test instruments, turning inserts with different curvature are used to carry out experimental study of cutting aluminum alloy so as to measure cutting temperature, verify simulation and analyze the effects law of high-speed cutter's edge and cutting conditions on the cutting temperature in the high-speed cutting process. The results show that curvature of edge involved in the cutting process has direct impact on cutting layer parameters and the distribution of thermal-stress, the reconstructed inserts with curve edge effectively improved the distribution of thermal-stress in the process of cutting high strength aluminum alloy,the largest equivalent stress and cutting temperature in deformation zone decrease by about 16%,5%,and experiments verify the law of high-speed cutting aluminum alloy and the results of finite element simulation.
