Modern mechanical manufacture is characterized of FMS, CIMS, AM, VM and CE. Quality of tool is one of the decisive factors if advanced manufacture process is realized and manufacture equipment of numerical control works well. Traditional flat rake milling insert has not been meeting with requirement gradually. It is necessary that a new type of tool with low milling force and low milling temperature is designed and developed. This thesis simulated the 3D milling insert stress field, temperature field and mechanical-thermal field, based on the milling test, according to the theory of self-organization cellular automata, and visualized the results of stress, temperature and physics field data. It was the foundation for the following dynamic self-organization design for milling insert.The content of the thesis is show as below:1. Experiment of milling temperature and milling force was processed. Milling temperature and milling force of wave edge and flat rake face milling insert were measured by dynamic data collecting system , and then analyze how these parameters affect on milling force and temperature, which provided temperature data for CA model.2. Combining model of milling force,based on principle of local action, inducting the discrete techniques of finite element method and the idea of cellular automata, established the CA model of stress field of milling insert.3. Established temperature transfer model of milling insert utilizing heat transfer theory and cutting theory; according to the Fourier's heat transfer conduction and the difference theory, temperature field model of milling insert based CA algorithm was deduced.4. Combining the result of temperature field, got thermal stress originated from the changed temperature. Equivalent stress and displacement were simulated by use of multi-field couple function, obtained distributing regularity of mechanical-thermal coupled physical field.5. The program of stress field, temperature field and coupled physical field of the milling insert based on cellular automata was completed using Matlab, and then the text data of results were displayed visually with Origin software. At last compared the result of stress field based on CA with FEM, and compared the result of temperature field based on CA with experiment data, the results can meet the expected precision, which proved that research stress field and temperature field of milling insert using CA algorithm is practicable; analysed the stress field, temperature field and coupled physical field of the milling insert based on the theory of cellular automata.
