The three central factors influencing the quality of ink-jet prints are printing engine, inks and substrates. The emphases in this thesis are the last two factors, especially the interactive between inks and substrates including ink penetration and ink spreading these two processes. The penetration of ink during the printing process is the formation of an important quality control aspect of printing, it is divided into penetration in press and free penetration these two phases. Penetrate too deep or too shallow will affect the quality of printed matter. In order to control the quality, and print high-quality images, it is necessary to research penetration process of printing, with a view to identify key factors in the depth of penetration, control the printing quality from the nature. In this paper, we made a depth of ink spread and penetrated model based on dynamic contact. Impress penetration depth and free penetration depth are two important components of ink penetration depth. Impress infiltration is mainly dependent on the printing pressure, so ink penetrated into the pores of the paper. Free infiltration is to use the paper capillary force and concentration gradient of ink, so that ink can penetrate further. First of all paper researches ink composition, surface tension, viscosity, and the paper's absorbency, porous. And use percolation theory for establishing the paper web model, determining the probability distribution of ink molecules. Expulsion of gas in liquid is used to measure the average pore diameter of paper, distribution of pore size and average pore diameter of paper next. Study on the influence of these factors to ink penetration and printing quality. Finally, research to the improved Washburn equation and derive depth of ink spread and penetration model. Proved by experiments, based on the dynamic contact of ink penetrating and spreading model can be a more accurate description of ink penetration in paper, and can control printing quality more precisely.
