Cutting head is the pivotal part of road header. The picks of the cutting head is the part which contacts with the coal and rock directly. During work, they are subjected to different degrees of wear and tear. After a long time, it will definitely affect efficiency. So, designing a system of pick's wear analysis has a great significance for improving the road header's work efficiency.The traditional methods of measuring the wear rate and are weighing, measuring the volume by water law, and so on. These methods are complicated and time-consuming, so that efficiency is not high. With the development of image processing technology, it has been widely used in the field of industrial inspection and monitoring. Based on this, the subject using image processing technology such as segmentation, feature extraction and image analysis, proposes and designs a new system of pick's wear analysis. The system can extract the area and the contour of the image, and can make analysis to different manufactures pick's wear, at the same time ,it can make analysis to different geometric of the pick's wear rate. On the basis of relating pick's wear technology at home and abroad, combinations the image processing technology of current, it puts forward a design program of pick's wear analysis, and makes the whole framework of the system. System includes hardware and software parts. The hardware part includes the test-bed of pick's wear and the test-bed of images obtain. The test-bed of pick's wear can make effective simulation to pick's working environment. The test-bed of images obtain can complete the pick's image acquisition. The software includes the module of image processing, the module of data analysis and the module of three-dimensional reconstruction. The module of image processing makes pre-processing, extracts the contour ad the area of the image. the module of data analysis gets the wear of pick's geometric location by calculating the area of the picks before and after cut-off. The module of three-dimensional reconstruction uses the algorithm which bases on the light plane and the contour of the image corresponding to the intersection of the light-cone, it can to observe the picks before and after cut-off more directly. `Through a number of tests and the experimental analysis of the data obtained, the system can make analysis to the pick's wear effectively.
