As a new type of one-dimension function material,carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have a lot of potential applications in the future Hi-Tech field due to their excellent mechanical,electronic and other properties. However,carbon nanotubes don't have reactivity themselves,CNTs' poor dispersion in the epoxy matrix has become the impediment during developing their applications.At the same time CNTs have poor compatibility and interface with the resin matrix as the use of reinforced composite materials,it will cause a decline in material properties.Experiments show that raw carbon nanotubes could cause the viscosity of resin system to increase greatly,and it was not suitable for preparing composite materials.In view of this,the functionalization to CNTs has become an effective way to improve their dispersibility in the polymer matrix and interfacial interaction between nanotubes and polymer,which is research focus in recent years.Therefore, carbon nanotubes was modified by surface chemical treatment,so as to it was functionalized by active groups,such as carboxyl(COOH),amine(NH2)and so on.That could improve the dispersion of carbon nanotubes and the interface with matrix,Finally the performance of composite materials was improved.In this study,MWNTs were treated with H2SO4/HNO3(3:1),and the effect of temperature on the oxidation was researched.Then carried out using chloride processing with SOCL2 and then it was treated with ethylenediamine. the micro-structure of MWNTs were studied by FT-IR,XPS,TEM and SEM. The results show that,the surface of MWNTs were successfully modified by a certain number of carboxyl and amide groups.Multiwalled carbon nanotubes modified were prepared as nano-reinforcement for T1000 carbon fiber/epoxy composites.The effect of carbon nanotubes on resin Viscosity and Mechanical Properties was studied. The ILSS of the NOL-ring composites reached 94MPa after adding 1wt% functionalized-carbon nanotubes.The fracture surface of composites indicated that the interface of epoxy resin and carbon fiber was improved.NH2-MWNTs could act as curing agent and reduced activation energy.
