The application of salt substitute ABE both in low-salt exhaust dyeing and cold pad-batch of cotton fabrics with reactive dyes were studied. The applied specialty and action principle of salt substitute ABE were researched. One-step treatment process, alkali S low-salt dyeing and cold pad-batch dyeing were optimized by researching the process conditions for the effects of dyeing property. The dyeing properties were also studied.Salt substitute ABE was a kind of cation polymer analysed by IR, DSC, SEM. Salt substitute ABE can reduce the amount of salt when reactive with reactive dyes and fibre. The result of study showed that salt substitute ABE was the most important condition for the effects of dyeing property. The optimum one-step treatment process condition was: salt substitute ABE 7g/L, alkali EH 1g/L, scouring enzyme LS 3.5g/L, H2O2 (30%) 3g/L, temperature 98℃, time 30min, and liquor ratio: 1:50. The optimum alkali S low-salt dyeing process was dyeing by reactive dye 2%o.w.f. with alkali S 0.5g/L and Na2SO4 20g/L at 85℃for 50min, liquor ratio: 1:50. The investigation of dyeing properties showed that the fabrics of alkali S low-salt dyeing after one-step treatment, compared with conventional dyeing, were higher in K/S value, leveling, upgrading dyeing rate and environmental. Various kinds of dyeing fastness could meet the requirements of wearing. In cold pad-batch dyeing, the amount of inorganic salt was reduced after pre-treatment by salt substitute ABE. The dyeing property and the colour yield were superior. The optimum pre-processing was treat by salt substitute ABE 5g/L, alkali EH 1g/L at 85℃for 35min, liquor ratio: 1:50.
