Studies On The Adhesive Used To Laminate PP With Film And Its Applying Process

The laminated composite is a kind of multi-function complexes by bonding two or the multi-layered fabric together with the adhesive or bonding the fabric and the high polymer film as well as other flexile sheet material together. And the laminated composite technology is an important way to develop new textile products and to make the fabrics to be multi-functions.In traditional, Luggage fabric laminated composite fabric is one of the most important products, which was made by laminating polyester or nylon fabric with PVC, EVA and other films, but now, the composite by PP and other film is an excellent new material for luggage since polypropylene has a light weight, high strength, wear resistance, etc. and the current adhesive in market can not bond the PP fabric with other film, since PP is non-polar material, and it shows relatively poor adhesives, limited application to be fabric for luggage.In this paper, the appropriate types of polymer based on the characteristics of PP fabrics was selected to develop the adhesive which can bond PP fabric with all kinds of polymer film, also the properties and their application were discussed.First, ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and thermoplastic styrene-butadiene rubber (SBS) were chosen to be the base polymer according to its bonding properties with PP and softness of final composite.The main factors affecting the adhesive properties of EVA hot melt adhesive, such as the types of raw materials, dosage, etc. had been studied, and the optimum formula is EVA 50g, petroleum resin 30g, microcrystalline wax 10g, and calcium sulfite 15g. The prepared EVA hot melt's softening point lower than that of similar commercially available hot melt adhesive, it can be bonded polypropylene material, but the film's relatively high thermal performance requirements, limiting its presence in the fabric and film laminate on the application.The SBS adhesive between polypropylene and film is better than EVA hot melt adhesive bond strength. And the impact of the type SBS, solvents, tackifier resins, and the fillers were discussed in detail, and the optimom formula is SBS 20%, mixed tackifier resin 40%, enhancer 2%. This adhesive had good adhesion to a variety of films. The adhesion properties of polar materials can be improved through SBS modified by grafting polar monomers.Except above, the bonding process, such as the nature and the surface of the materials, the amount of adhesive, curing conditions when use these adhesives, was also discussed. The bonding strength can be improved if the adhesive material's surface being appropriate treatment. It also increased with the amount of adhesive and achieved a maximum adhesive bond strength, reduction rather than excessive; The curing time decreased significantly and it had better adhesion effect when the adhesive curing temperature increased.
