High-pressure water jet incremental sheet metal forming(WJISMF)is a novel forming process developed from the combination of incremental sheet metal forming and water jetting, The main difference of WJISMF compared to sheet metal stamping is the application of a high-velocity water jet instead of a rigid punch. It is a green forming processing for no need of lubricating oil.Using the Large-scale finite element numerical simulation software ANSYS/LS-DYNA to simulate the forming process, the distribution of part thickness has been investigated. The relationship between the distribution of part thickness and trajectory has been focused on, and the relationship between the accumulating of the plastic deformation and trajectory has been discussed. The conclusion could be down that the larger the angle of the inclined plane on which the water jet impact is, the more difficult the forming process is.In the research, when the sheet metal have been formed to a certain depth, the sidewall of the part and the direction of the water jet into a angle, the angle becalmed smaller with the forming, the contact surface was a round face in the beginning of forming, then it has been elongated into a thin oval. Which has been resulted in water jet cannot effectively impact form the surface normal direction of the part, so the part sidewall was difficult to forming or even the parts can't be formed. An innovative idea of adjusting the spatial location of the part surface to maximize forming efficiency was put forward. a mechanical regulating device in the study has been designed, it was mainly used to adjust the water jet direction, it made the angle as much as possible close to 90 degrees, it has important theoretical and practical value in the improving the accuracy of forming and expanding forming working range.It has been simulated the forming and concluded the deformation of the sidewall near the bottom of part is small. Use numerical control machine and mechanical regulating device, It has been adjusted the sidewall of the part and the direction of water jet perpendicular to each other.
