Multi-walled carbon nanotubes have been drawing increasing attention recently. This new form of nanostructured carbon possesses a series of unique features. Since their discovery, CNTs have extensively been studied due to their unique chemical and mechanical properties and are of great interest for many applications, including their use as catalysts supports. Lately, CNTs decorated with metal nanoparticles have been examined toward applications in the area of nanoelectronics, as gas sensors and in heterogeneous catalysis. Several methodologies have been developed for the decoration of CNTs with palladium nanoparticles, including electroless deposition, thermal decomposition, vapor deposition, chemical reduction in supercritical CO2 solutions.Benzaldehyde is an improtant material for the industrial production of medicine, dye, flavor and resin. It is widly used in producing the lauraldehyde, Lauric acid and Lightgreen etc. Usually, benzaldehyde is produced by toluene. Benzaldehyde is obtained by toluene's side chain is chlorined, and then hydrolyzed, or toluene is oxidated. However, these technique has some disadvantage. For example, it require high reactive condition and has serious pollution. The conversion and selectivity are not very good. So it is necessary to find a method with a mild condition, less pollution, high conversion and selectivity.There are three chapters in this dissertations, as follows:Charpter one: We introduced the configuration of CNTs. Many efforts have been made to deal with CNTs with different synthetic methods and different processing means. In this article, we report the studies on CNTs metal catalyst carrier in catalysis application and has summarized the various knowledge of benzene methanol.Charpter two: First, we reported the selection of the catalytic carrier and active component. Many efforts have been made to modify various different CNTs. The CNTs were treated using nitrate with different proportions. Then, they were scattered and interrupted. The CNTs with loading with metal particle were characterized through series characterization means.Charpter three: in a variety of conditions, The benzyl alcohol as the raw material, toluene and water as solvent, we preparated benzaldehyde using different catalysts. In order to get higher yield and selectivity of the reaction we optimized the reaction conditions. It was found that we obtained that the highest yield and the best selectivity of benzaldehyde when the catalyst was the CNTs with loading Co-Pd, Co loading capacity was8.2wt%, Co and Pd in the ratio of 1:0.2, the reaction time was 4h, reaction temperature was 90oC.
