The water resources are one of the most basic material conditions about the humanity development and livelihood. The groundwater is an important component of human development and utilization of water resources. When many toxic and harmful pollutants entered the groundwater, groundwater had been polluted to some degrees which would bring many inconveniences for humanity production and life.Health Risk Assessment is an important method to quantitatively describe the relationship between pollution and human health. In this paper, the groundwater pollution data of 214 wells of five districts in Dalian are firstly collected. Then, the human health risks by drinking water approach are Characterized based on mechanism of ingestion of contaminants and dose-response relationship with the health risk assessment approach. The assessment results can provide an evidence for groundwater management and remediation. The main results as follows:On the conclusion of domestic and international health risk assessment methods and research, introduced environmental health risk assessment model to drinking water environment, groundwater quality evaluation model of health risks and health risk assessment index system of drinking water sources in urban are discussed. The carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks 214 wells groundwater 11 pollutants of 5 District are calculated and the pollutants hazard index are calculated too.Carcinogenic risk assessment results show that carcinogenic risk level of Cr(VI) which the wells numbered of x-013, s-085, s-349, z-026, z-129, g-182, g-261, g-296 and l-109 over the standard two orders of magnitude. The level of s-023, s-040, s-161, s-173, g-080 and g-092 more over the standard three orders of magnitude. So we know, contamination of Cr(VI) in underground water of Dalian is serious. Most of the carcinogenic risk level of As exceed the standard characterization, but is generally in the order of magnitude 10-6.The level of Cd that we can not have to be concerned about. The magnitude of non-carcinogenic risk level is generally less than 10-8.By comparing the non-carcinogenic hazard index, the ranking of average risk due to non-carcinogens via drinking water is F->Fe>Pb>Mn>Hg>NH3-N>CN-> Volatile phenol. As a result, Cr(VI), As and F- are the major pollutants of underground water in Dalian. The groundwater pollution of S in the five areas is the worst.
