Recently, with the rapid development of the economy and industrialization process, phonel is a common kind of high toxicity and refractory organics in waste water. This paper analyses the harmfulness of phonel and introduces the common processing technique and methods for phenol wastewater. Phenol degradation under the coupled ultraviolet and biofilm is presented. We utilize the combined effect to make phonel mineralization, and then was transformed into nontoxic substances. This would has important significance in refractory organics wastewater treatment. This research use a new kind of porous lightweight ceramic carrier to load microorganism. We try to make microorganism form biofilm in microporous of the carrier to avoid UV direct radiation on the basis of improving the the strength and density of the carrier. This paper aims to investigate the phonel degradation law under the coupled ultraviolet and biofilm. We assume if the phonel could ultilized by microorganism once it is photodegradated by UV to efficiently implement degrade phonel quickly.Circle-bed bioreactor made of quartz glass was used for phenol degradation under ultraviolet with 254nm wavelength. Regularity of phenol degradation was studied under ultraviolet irradiation alone, biofilm alone, and coupling of ultraviolet and biofilm, respectively.Experimental results indicated that,(1) Through the research of PCBBR hydraulic characteristics, we found that the residence time distribution curve was close to completely mixed flow.(2) According to the analysis on phenol degradation kinetics, the biofilm alone was better than ultraviolet alone for phenol degradation rate. And the phenol degradation rate increased with the initial concentration of phonel. The phenol removal loading under the coupling process was the highest among the three processes.(3) Although the phenol degradation rate was same under the coupling process and the biofilm alone, the phenol mineralization is better under the coupling process. (4) Through the data and sem observation, we found that the biofilm in the ceramic microporous still had good biological activity under the condition of ultraviolet radiation.(5) Through PCR analyse, We found that the microorganism in porous ceramic carrier had no change under UV radiation and still keeped the same biological activity. This reseach result lay a theoretical foundation for refractory organic wastewater treatment under UV irradiation and biofilm.
