With the development of iron and steel technology, it becomes more and more important to improve the cleanness of casting and the quality of billet. Therefore, it has theoretical and practical significance to study and analyze the flow field and temperature field of molten steel in LF furnace in order to ensure the rationality of molten steel flowing.The paper has studied systematically the effects of fluid behaviors in argon blowing process in different flowing position and quantity by means of water model and mathematical simulation, according to the 150t new Ladle Furnace of BaoTou Iron and Steel Corporation, and provides theoretical basis for determining the suitable position and quantity for blowing argon. It simulates the temperature distribution of molten steel in different conditions, so it provides the molten steel with perfect temperature in continuous casting process.In this paper,the three-dimensional mathematical model of circulation flow in LF has been established by applying continuity equation,N-S equation,k-εequations turbulence model. The flow field in the LF has been modified through SIMPLE method. Through the flow field model, the velocity distribution in steel during argon blowing with different position and quantity has been modified. With the calculation of velocity field , the distribution of temperature field has been modified through solving the energy equation,and it provides the theoretical studies about temperature changing during argon blowing and electrode heating were carried out.On the basis of similitude criteria, the 0.25-scale water model experiment has been carried out by equal Froude number. The ladle is made of plexiglasses in the experiment. The argon is replaced by the air and controlled by the flowmeter. The paper has studied the influences of the position and quantity of gas supply on fluid mixed time. And it tells the suitable position and quantity for argon blowing and validated the final optimum outcomes calculated by computer.On the basis of mathematical model and result of water model experiment, the optimal design of flowing position and quantity has been provided for the 150t new Ladle Furnace of BaoTou Iron and Steel Corporation.
