19 monitoring sections and 18 pollution outfalls on Nansha River were defined according to collected data and first-hand investigations. The contamination actuality of Nansha River was analyzed by spot and lab checking. The conventional indexes were evaluated using single-factor assessment and comprehensive assessment. The distributions and classification of organic pollutants in Nansha River was determined based on qualitative and quantitative measurement. By comparing different methods, factor analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were choosed to calculate the source apportionment of contaminants in Nansha River.The followings are conclusions:(l)The pollution of Nansha River is serious. According single-factor assessment, the average value of major conventional indicators,such as COD,BOD,TN,TP, are worse than Grade V during each water period. According comprehensive assessment, during the dry season, it performances light pollution before 4 section; heavy pollution between 4 and 5 section except 4.1 section; the middle reaches performs better; it performs heavy pollution since 8 section. It is better in wet period, which only performs heavy pollution in 2.1 and 9 section.The situation is the most serious in usual discharged period, nearly half of the section shows the heavy pollution, and the five sections shows severe pollution, the distribution of the heavy pollution is similar with it in dry season.(2)The species of organic pollutants are detected 40 in dry season, main material of which is alkanes, phthalate esters, organic acids and its esters. The amount of phthalate esters is relatively highest,66.52%. The species of organic pollutants are detected 24 in flow season, main material of which is phenols, aldehydes and ketones and alkanes. The amount of phenols is relatively highest,68.60%.The hydrocarbons are detected in both periods, and accounts for a higher proportion in all the organic pollutants.(3)By comprehensive comparison, Multivariate Statistics method is found more appropriate in pollution source apportionment in Nansha River. The result shows that the pollution source of Heavy Metal in Nansha River can be divided into three types: metallurgy and forge, construction and chemical industry. For the pollution source apportionment of the water, the contributions of the three source respectively is: 54.42%,25.32%,20.26%; for the pollution source apportionment of the suspended matter, it respectively is:52.22%,34.19%,13.59%. The types of pollution sources in the twice source apportionments is same, the contributions of them are similar, it proves the reliability of the result of the source apportionment of water pollution.
