Climate change is one of the world's top ten environmental issues. Many studies show that the climate change is caused by human activities. The driving factor of global warming is greenhouse gases, particularly the carbon dioxide whose warming effect is up to 63%. China proposes "develop low carbon economy" in recent years, Chengdu also puts forward the slogan that building "zero carbon Chengdu". Consequently, grasp the macro characteristics of a region's carbon emissions, and then take measures to reduce the number of carbon emissions with a purpose are significance of this magnificent. This paper reviews the domestic and international attitudes to carbon emission reduction, carbon emission reduction calculation model in the field of scientific research currently, the driving factor of climate change-greenhouse gases that mainly generated by human activities is analysed, particularly carbon dioxide which have the strongest warming effect. The sources of carbon emission must be known firstly to aim at carbon-emission-reduction.This article summaries carbon-emission-sources and divides them into three categories:"energy", "industry"(carbon emissions of the industrial production process) and "agriculture and forestry" from the definition of "carbon sources ".Subsequently, combined the industrial and agricultural development status, Chengdu's main carbon-source are analyzed included energy consumption, cement, steel, synthetic ammonia, glass production and agriculture. Then energy consumption, outputs of cement, steel, synthetic ammonia and glass production, farm areas are collected to calculate the carbon emissions in Chengdu. The result showes that carbon-emissions mainly resulted from energy consumption and cement, steel, synthetic ammonia productiones which belong to industrial carbon sources in Chengdu. From 1999 to 2008, the numbers of carbon-emission in Chengdu increases year by year, energy consumption and industrial carbon emissions growes every year, too. Only the agriculture carbon-emissions hold the line. Energy consumed and carbon dioxide emissions for each 10,000 yuan of GDP are less than the national average and decreases year by year, but per capita carbon emissions goes up year by year. Then the characteristics of carbon emission of energy consumption in Chengdu are analyzed, the result showes that the main factor of growth of per capita carbon emissions is the rapid economic development, as inhibitory factores, the energy mix and energy efficiency contribute little power on per capita carbon emissions, but have not give full play to the role of inhibition of carbon emissions. Finally, the measures to reduce carbon emissions are puted forward based on the analysis: first, change coal-dominated energy mix, increases the oil, natural gas, electricity share and develop biomass and nuclear power generation. Increase the efficiency of energy-using, save energy. Secondly, adjust the industrial structure, control the development of cement and other high-carbon sectors. Implement carbon-emission-reduction technologies in the high-carbon sectors. Third, tap new resources of energy and improve fuel efficiency in the field of transportation. Fourth, enhance carbon sinks, protect carbon sequestration by afforestation and other methods. Finally, enhance technology research and international cooperation of carbon capture and storage.
