Plywood had a great output in China which was widely used in furniture making and decoration of family. However, Plywood has some disadvantages in properties of flame retardant and environmental performance, which can bring harm to people's health and cause fire hazard. So, the study is of important theoretical value and practical significance. The research manufactured flame retardant plywood with flame retardant and modified flame retardant impregnated veneer and plywood, discussing the effect of flame retardant concentration and impregnation treatment to the weight increase, the property of flame retardant plywood and analyzing the curing and dynamic mechanical properties and thermal degradation properties by DSC, DMA and TG.The main results were obtained:(1) Plywood made by veneer which impregnated with BLFR at room temperature and atmospheric pressure had great flammability and environmental performance. When the weight percent gain was 8.7%, the formaldehyde emission was decreased by 89%, which has reached EO level. The negative impact to bond strength is insignificant when the weight percent gain is less than 19.8%. The method of washing the surface of veneer which had been treated by flame retardant can improve the bond strength of flame retardant plywood. (2) Plywood impregnated with BLFR at room temperature and atmospheric pressure had little increase in weight gain, and the LOI of plywood is small. Vacuum pressure impregnation can greatly increase the weight gain of plywood and get higher LOI. (3) BFR had a positive effect on the proprieties of plywood. The weight percent gain of plywood increased and the property of flame retardant improved. The optimum additive amount was 0.1% penetrant and 5% borax. (4) BLFR and BFR have little impact on the bond strength of plywood, when impregnation was carried out after the plywood was finished. Both of them can reduce the amount of emission of formaldehyde, which has reached EO level. (5) BLFR can extend the curing time, increase the curing temperature, and reduce the curing extent, which had posed an impact on the curing of UF resin. (6) BLFR and BFR have the same flame-retardant mechanism. Both of them can promote the thermal decomposition behavior, reduce the onset temperature and increase the char amount, which are good for the flammability of plywood.
