In recent years, fire caused by the textile burning has brought a serious threat to people's lives and property, so flame-retardant finishing for textiles is an urgent need. The demand for cotton fabrics is still increasing, because of its special properties such as soft handle, excellent moisture absorption and etc. While, cotton was a kind of inflammable fiber, whose limit oxygen index was only 18.0, the flame-retardant finishing for cotton fabrics is particularly significant. At present, though the finished cotton fabrics have good flame retardant properties, the content of free formaldehyde on the cotton is much, or have a poor washability. Development for formaldehyde-free reactive flame retardant cotton use has become a very important topic. To address the issue of free formaldehyde in textile finishing, the subjects use of phosphorous acid, ethylene glycol, diethyl phosphite, acrylamide, and cyanuric chloride and other raw materials, Two formaldehyde-free reactive flame-retardants were synthesized. By changing the reactants feed ratio, catalyst, reaction temperature and reaction time, orthogonal experiment based on single factor experiments was designed to obtain the optimal reaction conditions. The IR spectrum, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR , 31P-NMR and GPC were used to characterize the structure of the two formaldehyde-free durable flame retardants.Flame-retardantâ… andâ…¡were used to finish cotton fabrics. By changing the flame retardant dosage, crosslinker dosage, curing temperature, curing time, the orthogonal experiment based on the single factor experiment was designed to obtain the best finishing process for the two flame- retardants. The flame retardant of the finished fabric was tested by the vertical burn method and the limiting oxygen index method, the results showed that: flame retardantâ… have good fire retardant performance which can reach B2 level, flame-retardantâ…¡had excellent fire retardant performance which can reach B1 level. The thermal effect of finished fabrics was tested with TGA and DSC, the results showed: the fabrics finished by flame- retardantâ… andâ…¡was still cracking the stage, the pyrolysis temperature of each stage had a larger reduction. By heating the flame-retardant cracked in advance and coated on the surface of cotton fabric, effectively reduced the fabrics'cracking, and improved flame-retardant performance of the finished fabrics. Other applications in the performance of finished fabrics such as the radial tensile strength, stiffness and whiteness were tested, the results showed that: the application performance of the finished fabrics have less affected after finishing. Washability of the treated fabrics was also tested, indicating that the finished fabrics has good fire retardant washable.
