With the serious water pollution to our environment increasingly, the traditional method of sewage disposal has already not met the requirements of water quality. Photocatalytic oxidation technology has developed rapidly in the sewage disposal because of its good effect, low cost and no secondary pollution. The design and development of photocatalytic reactor are one of the key problems on photocatalytic technology used in sewage disposal.In this paper, a innovative design of sewage photocatalytic reactor was made based on the mechanical design theories and methods. The design features of the structure and function about the gear transmission system, the slot frame, the dual cooling system, the sieve-type gas-liquid mixing system, lighting system etc in this device were introduced, and the installation of the carrier in the device and its motor power were especially discussed. A virtual prototype of the device was designed with Pro/ENGINEER software used as a design platform, the method and procedure of the virtual design was also reported. Not only the static and dynamic interference detection of the elements in the device,but also the speed and acceleration motion simulation of axes were done by using the function of the software's interference detection and motion simulation.The result from the interference detection and motion simulation showed that:the design of the device structure and drive system were in conformity with the design requirements.In this research, a control system that employed a microchip AT89C51 was designed and made to make alarm whenever the water flow reached to a stable state or its temperature was beyond a limit. Furthermore, the hardware selections, the hardware connection between the schematic diagrams were completed, and the flow chart of the operation programs between the hardware and partial control procedures were also realized.Finally, the sewage disposal experiments in which underground water containing organic chlorine pesticide had been taken as the experimental sample were conducted. The experimental result indicated:the sewage disposal effect was affected in varying degree by the amount of photocatalyst, air flow rate, motor speed, the amount of water flowing-in and water flowing condition, and it was found that the air flow rate, the motor speed and water flow all had a best value respectively in each experiment.The research results show that:the dynamic recycling sewage photocatalytic reactor is able to achieve the best condition through the adjustment of photocatalyst amount used, the aeration quantity, electric motor's rotational speed as well as the water flow. The research and design on photocatalytic reactor are of significance in practical use.
