With the wish of saving energy and reducing materials depleting, the disadvantage of wet fiue gas desuifurization is coming out. It does not only waste the heat energy, but also result the environment pollution because of the waste water producing. So it's the researchers'duty to find a new method of desuifurization which saves more energy and depletes less material. Recently a new green solvent-ionic liquids(IL) have attracted more and more people's attention. IL is a compound of ions that exhibit low melting points. It has extremely low melting properties, wide liquid range, good electrolytic properties with large electrochemical window, unflammability and strong thermal stability and also can dissolve many inorganic salts and organic compounds, so it shows a brighter future of being applied in the field of electrochemistry and catalyzation.Aiming to find a new liquid as desulfurizing agent working at high temperature, we prepared some different iron-based ionic liquids in this work. Their characteristics of thermal stable and redox were investigated to explore the feasibility of iron-based ionic liquids used as desulfurizing agent.First, we prepared the iron-based ionic liquid by mixing chloride-based imidazolium ionic liquid and FeCl3·6H2O directly for 24H at atmosphere. The product of iron-based ionic liquid presented the chemical strucuture as the ratio ionic liquid to iron of 1:1 with hydrophobic and only two groups:FeCl3 and FeCl4-. The side chains of N1 or N2 were used to investigate the structure and property relationship of Fe-based imidazolium ionic liquid. The results show that the thermal stabilities of the iron-based ionic liquids would become weaker as the side-chain become longer, and all of them could stand up about 250℃,but their viscosities would increase with increasing up of the length of the side chains. This paper also use cyclic voltammeter to explore the redox of these iron-based ionic liquids. The results show that these iron-based ionic liquids presents good reversibility of the metal ions pairs of Fe(III)/Fe(II), which implys that and the Fe3+ could be regenerated by oxidation after it was reduced by H2S.
