The purification of sulphide ore Flotation wastewater is one significant research subject about Environmental problems of nonferrous metal mine in our country. In our experiment, butyl xanthate wastewater was treated by sequencing batch reactor which was a cost-effective active sludge treatment system. Firstly, active sludge was acclimated. Secondly, technological parameters were optimized one by one. At last, the tolerance of the SBR about impact load was detected.Acclimation of activated sludge was proceeded successfully in three months. The performance of sludge (including water COD, activity, and the settlement performance) was enhanced.Simulated butyl xanthate wastewater was treated by a sequencing batch reactor(SBR). The effects of mass concentration, aeration rate, feeding mode, settling time on the biodegradation of butyl xanthate were investigated. The results show that, under the conditions of 8 h completed mixed aeration,100 mg/L influent xanthate concentration, the effluent xanthate concentration is less than 0.4 mg/L. At optimum conditions, i.e. 12 h running cycle, including 10 min batch wastewater filling,8 h completed mixed aeration, air flow rate of 100 mL/min,40 min sludge settling,10 min decantation and 180 min idle period, the influent 100 mg /L xanthate is completely degraded. In the optimum process conditions, maintaining the influent concentration of 100mg/L constant, aeration time was reduced to 6 h, SBR run 3 cycles per day with a full cycle of 8 hours, which increase the daily treatment capacity of the SBR reactor. While the effluent xanthate concentration is 0.04 mg/L, and the effluent COD concentration is 55 mg/L, both meet the emission requirements. The SBR technology system can tolerate the impact of high concentrations of load, when the xanthate concentration were 300mg/L, 600mg/L, 1000mg/L,impacted on the SBR. When the influent xanthat concentration is 1000mg/L, effluent COD was relatively high. Run the SBR continuely three recovery cycle, then the system got right.
