The preparation of SWCNTs from coal has become available, but the products obtained are normally mixed with a variety of impurities, such as amorphous carbon, carbon nanoparticles, graphite fragments, fullerenes and metal catalyst particles. The existence of these impurities greatly hinder the characterization, properties and practical application of SWCNTs, so the purification of SWCNTs is necessary. This paper studied the use of ultrasonic treatment-chemical oxidation combining method to purify the coal-based SWCNTs which were fabricated on a large scale by arc-plasma from coal. The purity of SWCNTs up to 90 wt.% after ultrasonic treatment-chemical oxidation can be achieved.Carbon nanotubes with good mechanical properties, electrical properties, heat transfer properties and high thermal conductivity, were considered as ideal polymer composites reinforced material. Compared the zeolite or other porous materials with the same aperture of, CNTs have a very fast transfer rate for light gases. It was expected that one-dimensional channels of carbon nanotubes as nano-carbon film hole tubular film will have a very high gas flux. In this paper, carbon nanotubes were introduced into the polymer precursor (PAA), to make carbon nanotubes/carbon composite membranes which were prepared via carbonization. The results show that SWCNTs can improve the selective separation of gases, and MWCNTs can greatly enhance the membrane permeability of membrane. We also find that carbon nanotubes can greatly increase the electrical conductivity of carbon membrane.Micro/nano-carbon materials have a wide range of applications in the field of functional materials for their size and morphology of the diversity, unique optical, electrical, magnetic, mechanical and other properties. So it was the hotspot that the ideal form of micro/nano-carbon materials were prepared via different physical and chemical changes. High quality mushroom-like microcarbon materials were synthesized from a kind of Chinese anthracite coal by arc-discharge method with FeS as the catalyst.
