β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD), which have a hydrophobic cavity and hydrophilic surface, is considered as an attractive compound in the field of molecular recognition, enzyme mimics, construction of molecular building blocks with nano ordered, food, commodity, medicine, chemical industry and agriculture. In this paper, the research progress on the modification ofβ-CD to form related derivatives is reported, and the application of these derivatives is also introduced. There are some drawbacks such as inadequate of functional groups of chromogenic whenβ-CD used as a host model. In order to improve these drawbacks, in the present work, six kinds of cyanine dye-β-CD are designed and synthesized by using a series of cyanine dyes. The cyanine dyes we used have some special characters such as a wide wavelength tuning range and complete coverage of the entire spectral range. The structure of these cyanine dye-β-CD are confirmed by 1HNMR, IR, UV-vis and flight mass spectrometry. The UV-vis spectra of six kinds of cyanine dye-β-CD in different solvents are investigated. The results indicate that the absorption band shapes are not changed for the same dye, but theλmax and absorbance is affected when using different solvents. The inclusion effect of dye-/3-CD as host compounds with fluorescent probes and 1-adamantanol is investigated. The corresponding inclusion constant are 2.519×10 L/mol,2.516×105L/mol,5.474×104 L/mol,2.094×105 L/mol,2.268×105 L/mol,3.472×105 L/mol respectively. The results indicate that Dye-β-CD and 1-adamantanol could form inclusion complex with a ratio of 1:1. It is showed that the inclusion complex provided an experimental foundation for the molecular recognition of host compounds with fluorescent probes by using spectral analysis method. The quantitative analysis for two medicines by using Dye-β-CD as host compounds with fluorescent probes is performed. It is showed that there existed an excellent linear relationship between the variation value of absorbance and the concentration of levofloxacin lactate(or ribavirin). This result provide an experimental foundation for the application of Dye-β-CD(10) as sensors to determine the quantity of levofloxacin lactate and ribavirin.
