New compound wood material, which is made of veneers and selected low density wood species especially plantation as raw materials, was manufactured from veneer preparation, dyeing, resin infusing, forming and mold-pressing to a new kind of wood-based reconstituted panel. Dyeing induced imparting wood with fancy color and clear surface texture, thereby greatly enhancing the decorative effects of wood products in service; resin infusing could improve density, dimensional stability, fracture strength, abrasive weathering resistance of the veneer. So the new wood-based panel which made of these veneers will be an outstanding bathroom material to satisfy people those who was enthusiasts about wood-based material. This study will provide a new method for the high value-added utilization of plantation; solve the contradiction between supply and demand of expensive wood species, expanding the plantation timber utilization.In this paper, functional performance and decoration characteristics of the panel was studied. The former was concerned to dimensional stability, contaminate resistance, c decay resistance, mechanical strength and physical and chemical properties on its surface. color, Besides, the paper studied the panel's decoration characteristics such as color matching techniques and vein emulating, pattern emulating.The main research results are summarized as follows:1. The influence of the process factors between solid content, impregnate conditions and press on new wood-based panel'dimensional stability were studied in the paper. Birch was used as raw material. the three process factors were examined in the process of making new wood-based panel. The result showed that when choose the factors of 40%solid content and roll pressure (compression ratio between 50%-70%), new wood-based panel gained 6.2%as percentage of limit volume expansion which is lower 6,7.1,4.6 percentagepoints than ash, plywood, oak. So the panel has excellent dimensional stability.2. Reference standard of "Laminated wood plastics", mechanical parameters of the panel as follows, its density is 1.12 g/cm3; tensile strength parallel to grain is 105.3MPa; shear strength parallel to grain layer is 7.6MPa; MOR is 128MPa; compressive strength parallel to grain is 81MPa; 24h water absorption is 21.7%. So the panel meet the requirements of materials applied in bathroom on mechanical properties.3. The study refered standard of "Kitchen Furniture" shows that the panle have excellent physical and chemical properties on their surface. Their Antifouling ability is compliance. The ability on corrosion resistance gained grade 1 more than required grade 2.4. The color simulation make color difference degree less than 3 between the panel and target color; Besides examples showed that using graphic design, color design, mold design, carving process can make the panel gain rich flat or three-dimensional pattern.
