Along with the development of Aeromechanics, Ocean Engineering and petroleum exploration technology, many metal materials which have the characteristic of high hardness, high strength, and high corrosion resistance have been widely used in various fields, such as Titanium alloy, high strength stainless steel and resistant high-temperature alloys. But they are difficult to cut in the field of traditional machining. And this character limits its use.As a kind of special processing method, EDM have been widely used. Due to the advantages of without effect of cutting force, easy chip conveying, suitable for machining various kinds of difficult-to-cut materials, it is widely used. In the paper, EDM technology is applied to those difficult-to-cut materials (such as spark processing and Fusion Explosion processing technology), and studies the EDM features and materials features of those difficult-to-cut materials, provides the base for Fusion&Explosion deep hole and set processing technology.This paper introduces the principles of several EDM methods with details, such as EDM processing, Fusion&Explosion processing and high speed spark punching. With a series of tests, the paper applies mathematical statistics to analyze the influences from electrical parameter to technic index in the process of EDM processing. With the measured surface roughness of workpiece, the paper analyzes the influences factors for the roughness with details. Through the Fusion&Explosion processing tests to Titanium-alloy and stainless steel materials, as well as the microstructure analysis and roughness test, the relation between material's inner structure and material's feature can be acquired, and it provides the relative data to Fusion&Explosion processing technic.EDM is a good and effective way to process the difficult-to-cut materials, specially for those materials of deep hole and set, it is expected as a processing method of energy saving, environmental protection and low cost, it would be wide accepted.
