The synthesis processes, reaction kinetics and thermodynamic properties of 4-Methylmorpholine were studied in this paper. N-methylmorpholine was synthesized using formaldehyde, formic acid and morpholine and purified by distillation under reduced pressure. The main controlling factors in this reaction were investigated and the optimal settings were obtained as follows, n(morpholine):n(formaldehyde):n(formic acid)=1.0:1.3:1.2, reaction temperature as 75℃, and reaction time as 3h. The over yield and purity were 91.2% and 99.5%, respectively.The kinetics of the synthesis was investigated in different temperature to obtain kinetic data of this reaction. By altering the reaction temperature, kinetics equation was studied.The saturated pressure data of N-methylmorpholine were measured in the temperature range of 317.59 K to 392.48 K, and the Antoine coefficients were gained by Antoine equation fitted with the data. On the basis of Antoine equation, the enthalpy of vaporization of N-methylmorpholine at normal boiling point was obtained. At as, the standard enthalpy of vaporization was estimated.
