In order to provide the theory evidence of utilizing wood reasonably and selecting suitable species for producers to produce furniture, this paper investigated the species, measured the air-dry density and parameters of surface material color, which was delegated by a company. These woods also were classified with ward cluster analysis based on color parameters. The feeling of people in different age groups on furniture color was explored by using experimental psychology methods. Besides, the light fastness of all the species were also investigated. The conclusions are the following:(1) The twenty species of wood belong to 15 categories in 5 aceaes. They are Burkea sp., Afzelia sp., Baikiaea sp., Amphimas sp., Guibourtia sp. and Berlinia sp. of the Caesalpinoideae; Dalbergia frulescens var. tomentosa, Dalbergia frulescens var. tomentosa, Dalbergia oliveri, Machaerium sp., Pterocarpus angolensis, Pterocarpus erinaceus, Pterocarpus dalbergioides, Pterocarpus soyauxii, Dipteryx sp., Swartzia sp. and Millettia leucantha of the Faboideae; Entandrophragma sp. of the Meliaceae; Chlorophora regia of the Moraceae, and Diospyros celebica of the Ebenaceae.(2) The air-dry density of eighteen wood species of them is over 0.76g/cm3, which shows that the majority of the twenty wood species are stiff and heavy. Additionally, 7 wood species are the rosewoods according to the national standard of《HONGMU》(GB/T 18107—2000) and other 7 wood species are pare hardwood in deep color according to the standard of《FURNITURE MADE OF PARE HARDWOOD IN DEEP COLOR》.(3) The color space distributing characteristics of the twenty wood species'material color are the following: the distributing range of lightness index L* and V is 15~52 and 0~4 respectively. The value of tone parameter H is 5.21YR~2.61Y while 17 species'tone value is in the range of YR's tone value and only 3 species is in the range of Y'tone value. The distributing range of color saturation C* and C is 9~35 and 4.91~20.13 respectively.(4) In the twenty wood species, their metric lightness L* is positive correlated with H, and their metric index of the Red-Green axis color a* is also positive correlated with the metric index of the Yellow-Blue axis color, color saturation C* and C and tone H while the lightness V and tone H have the same relationship.(5) The twenty kinds of imported wood used for furniturer were divided into three categories with ward cluster analysis. The first category includes Pterocarpus angolensis, Entandrophragma sp., Afzelia sp., Pterocarpus erinaceus, Chlorophora regia, Dalbergia frulescens var. tomentosa, Dipteryx sp., Baikiaea sp., Dalbergia oliveri, Pterocarpus dalbergioides, Guibourtia sp., Berlinia sp., and these woods'color which are lighter than other types are orange. The second category consists of Burkea sp., Dalbergia frulescens var. tomentosa, Amphimas sp., Swartzia sp., Pterocarpus soyauxii, and these woods'color are near red, while Machaerium sp., Millettia leucantha, Diospyros celebica were in the third class. The wood color of the third class are near black.(6) The favorable wood specie of age group in 20~35, 36~55 and over 55 is the Pterocarpus erinaceus, Afzelia sp. and Dipteryx sp. restpectively, and their most upscale wood specie is the Dalbergia frulescens var. tomentosa, Millettia leucantha and Burkea sp. respectively. we got a conclusion that young people preferred wood with high lightness and undertone while the elderly people preferred red color wood, and all people believed that the furniture with deep color are more upscale than furniture with light color.(7) According to the variation regulation of whiteness decrease caused by UV radiation, the twenty wood species'light discoloration was divided into 5 modes, which is A (turn deep color), B (fade after turning deep), C (fade after turning deep, and turn deep again), D (turn deep after fading) and E (turn deep after fade, and fade again).(8) According to the light resistance after 56h UV radiation, the order from the best to worst of twenty wood species are following: Diospyros celebica, Pterocarpus erinaceus, Machaerium sp., Afzelia sp., Dalbergia frulescens var. tomentosa, Pterocarpus dalbergioides, Pterocarpus angolensis, Dalbergia oliveri, Millettia leucantha, Guibourtia sp., Berlinia sp., Burkea sp., Dipteryx sp., Pterocarpus soyauxii, Swartzia sp., Dalbergia bariensis, Amphimas sp., Baikiaea sp., Entandrophragma sp., Chlorophora regia.
