With the rapid development of industry in the world, environmental pollution and shortage of recources become more and more serious. In the architectural coatings, environmentally friendly water-based latex paint is to replace the traditional solvent -based paint, so various countries and coatings business concerns spend more attentions on this kind of paint. Because of that, the preparation of the modified acrylic latex with water as solvent by emulsion polymerization has become a hot lssue for the people. This paper described the research and development of acrylic and modified acrylic emulsion for home and abroad in recent years, which mainly elaborated the development of that polyurethane modified acrylic emulsion, and identified the pupose and main contents of the experiment. In the experiment, first, this paper introduced the method of preparation of polyurethane crosslinkers, explained the different types of polyurethane cross-linking agent by comparing, and characterized it by IR.Second, the paper prepared polyurethane-acrylic elastic latex with different polyurethane crosslinkers by emulsion, and described the modified principle of the experiment. In addition, the paper analysized factors of preparation of emulsion, such as emulsifier, crosslinker and temperature. It has proved that the lower crosslinked polyurethane-acrylic elastic latex prepared have excellent performance, which can be used as architectural coatings. At last, basing on the preparation of polyurethane-acrylic elastic emulsion, the paper synthesized polyurethane urea and polyurethane urea-acrylate elastic emulsion, and compared the performance of two kinds of elastic emulsion by testing and analysis.Through the analysis of the experiment, the paper thought and discussed the problem in the experiment, and also illustrated the research in next stage.
