The amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agent is one of the polymers which have long chain hydrophobically associative monomers and hydrophilic monomers. They could be prepared by introducing the long chain hydrophobically associative monomers to the hydrophilic monomers of retanning agents, Thus, they not only have retanning property, but also have fatliquoring property. They have strongly consistency, they could be hard to be migrated in the leather, their fatliquoring property can be more permanence; They make the leather has waterproof performance when their hydrophilic monomers residues are blocked by metal salts. They can reduce the BOD and COD of tannery wastewater effectively. So the synthisis and property of amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agent has recently been attracting attention. The application of amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agents in leather and fur industry have been more important.In this paper we summarized the research progress of amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agent; Higher alkyl acrylate monomer and octadecylamid monomer were prepared, The amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agent was synthesized by them and acrylic acid. The structure of the polymer was charactherized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). Alkyl phosphate which was used to compound with retanning fatliquoring agent was also prepared. The main content of this paper are as follows:(1) Higher alkyl acrylate was was direct_etherification from acrylic acid and higher alcohol with p_toluene sulfuric acid as catalyst, and hydroquinone as inhibiting polymerization reagent. The conditions that influence conversion was optimized, the molar ratio of acrylic acid and higher alcohol was 1.2:1, the amount of p_toluene sulfuric acid was 1% and hydroquinone benzenediol was 0.8%, reaction temperature was 125℃and reaction time was 5 hours. The product was tested by IR spectra.(2) Amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agent was synthesised by amidation of succinic anhydride with octadecylamine in chloroform solution and then co-polymerization with acrylic acid and other monomers. octadecylamid monomer was synthesized without catalyst and inhibiting polymerization reagent. the molar ratio of succinic anhydride and octadecylamine was 1.1:1, reaction temperature was 80℃, reaction time was 3 hours. The product was tested by IR spectra. The viscosity, stability and residual monomer of the products were used as main indexes inspection. L9(34)orthogonal experiments were applied to ensure the optimum conditions, which were reaction temperature, reaction time, the molar ratio, the amount of catalyst of synthesis. the molar ratio was 1.1:1:1, reaction temperature was 85℃, reaction time was 2 hours, the amount of catalyst was 1%,the product was white paste materials with 44.12% solid content which was easy to dissolved in water.(3) Mono-alkyl phosphate was prepared with phosphorus pentoxide and higher alcohol, the yield of the product can be increased by means of reaction together with water, the conditions of hydrolysis was researched, The conditions that influence conversion was optimized, the molar ratio of higher alcohol and phosphorus pentoxide was 3:1, hydrolysis time was 1.5 hours, hydrolysis temperature was 65℃,In purification experiment, the conditions which were the mass ratio of alkyl phosphate and NaOH was 5.5:1, reaction time of neutralization reaction was 45 min, the mass ratio of isopropanol and alkyl phosphate was 5:3.(4) The amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agent was combinated with Mono-alkyl phosphate, then were applied in retanning and fat liquoring of chrome-tanned pig leathers. The comparison between it and other amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agent were also researched. The results show that the leather been treated was better than some domestic agent in thickening rate, fullness and softness, but the waterproof property was still nonideal characteristic, and the product was belonged to anionic surfactant, the amphipilic retanning fatliquoring agent influenced the dyeing process.
