The software FLUENT, is used to numerically simulate the rectangular sedimentation tank.the distribution of the flow field and concentration field in the rectangular sedimentation tank is got at different time. Furthermore,the fluent is applied to get the velocity field of mixture flow, concentration field of suspended solids in the rectangular sedimentation tank under different locations of inlet baffles, different inlet high,different granule density and different locations of arc-shaped spoiler. some necessary information about the structure optimization though analysis of the calculated results are got.Comparison and analysis of the numerical results indicate that hight of inlet baffles affects the efficiency of sedimentation tank very much. the circulation region is determined by the the high of the inlet baffles,the bigger the circulation region is,the shorter the hydraulic retention time is in the settling tank,therefore the sedimentation tank is inefficient; when the horizontal location of the baffles varies within limits, settling tank can keep an ideal removal effect; inlet height varies within limits has little influence to the removal efficiency of sedimentation tank; Large granule-density has good effect on deposition of the sedimentation tank; The arc-shaped spoiler can improve the flow pattern of uneven,thereby enhancing the operational efficiency of sedimentation tanks.
