Accelerated Controlled Cooling is an important way to improve plate performance and additional value. It can simplify process and improve production efficiency, save energy and expensive alloying elements, which has great economic benefits. This paper is based on controlled cooling system of a new plate mill in China. To solve the difficulties of controlled cooling system, we have a series of studies and developments.In this paper, based on the theory of heat transfer, we use finite difference method to develop two-dimensional temperature field model of controlled cooling by analyzing main factors which affect the temperature model. The model includes the following sub-models, thermal parameters model, heat transfer coefficient model, self-learning model, water ratio model, the edge masking model, and so on.?According to the plate mill process and equipment, different plate thickness and different water open modes are simulated to calculate temperature distribution. And the header flow method is optimized to provide good guidance for the controlled cooling process.On-line controlled cooling system developed in this paper has good timeliness and stability, there are some functions in the system as follows: process tracking, data processing, cooling calculation model, process monitoring, and so on. Pre-setup and revised cooling calculation models are combined to improve adaption of cooling model. Various cooling strategies are adopted to control plate temperature uniformity to ensure plate properties and shape.
