At present, in China beam pumping unit is still used as main pumping unit, this paper discusses basic form and causes that could lead to its failure, and conducts risk analysis of beam pumping unit, analyzing the overall structure of beam pumping unit, based on three parts of beam pumping unit the ground installation, sucker and rod pump. Furthermore, through the summary of the causes for failure of beam pumping unit, build the fault tree of sucker, ground installation and rod pump, and conduct qualitative analysis to identify minimal cut sets and most trails set of the fault tree of sucker, ground installation and rod pump, to determine important events that impact various parts fail and a combination of basic events that avoid the various parts fail. According to the minimum cut set establish the equivalent fault tree, based on failure data of oil extraction plant, conduct quantitative analysis, to identify the basic probability of pumping equipment failure, and determine primary and secondary causes for all the basic events calculating probability importance degree and structure importance degree. Combining equivalent fault tree and probability importance degree and structure importance degree of all the basic events, present preventive measures to failure of the beam pumping unit, so as to minimize the failure rate and reduce the risk injury.
