As one kind of the most important inorganic bioactive materials, hydroxyapatite(HA) is playing an important role in clinical repair of orthopaedics and dental. Forartificial hydroxyapatite, the properties of products are affected significantly by size, morphology and surface state of the particles. Template method was introduced intothe synthesis of hydroxyapatite, which exhibits the unique ability to control particlessize, morphology and surface area.In this study, the HA powders were synthesized by using lyotropic liquid crystaltemplate and microemulsion, and HA was prepared using the template method. Theresultant HA was collected for the characterization of structure and properties usingTEM, XRD and FTIR techniques, etc. The effect of different methods, synthesisparameters on the formation and the morphology of HA were studied.Firstly, the single–phase region of lamellar liquid crystal was determined afterthe the partial phase diagram of emulsifier OP-10 (Triton X-100)-n-decanol -watersystem was completed. HA nanoparticles with defferent micro-morphologies weresynthesized when the two kinds of Triton X-100- n-decanol -water lamellar lyotropicliquid crystal were mixed and aginged in which calcium nitrate and ammoniumdibasic phosphate were dissolved in the solvent layer, respectively. The prepared HAnanoparticles were nanorods with the diameters of around 8~10nm and a length ofless than 100nm.The microscopies of HA which was prepared with differentsurfactant concentrations ,cosurfactant concentrations, rectants concentrations, solution pH values, aging time and different heat-treatment temperatures werecontrasted. In the second method, the effects of different oil phase, the ratio between TritonX-100 and n-decanol, different rectants concentrations on the microemulsionsolutions were studied. On the base of partial ternary phase diagram for Triton X-100-n-decanol- isooctane -water, the spindle HA nanoparticles was synthesized by thismethod. The effect of different heat-treatment temperatures, the ratio of water and oil, aging time on the nucleation and crystal growth were discussed. The results indicatethat the size of HA nanoparticles can be controlled by altering the ratio of W/ O.
