Self-adhesive label printing is the special printing in the printing industry. In recent years, with the development of the new materials, the new technologies and the new equipments, this printing has developed into an independent printing. At present, the processors who print self-adhesive label professionally are common, but high-performance label printing equipments are mainly imported. In this context, this topic has developed an intermittent rotary label printing. Its maximum printing speed is up to 15,000 times per hour, the overprint accuracy is of 0.03mm, and the performance is stable when accelerating or decelerating.At first, this paper proposed that the structure of the intermittent rotary label printing was shaftless. After introduced the mechanical structure of the shaftless intermittent rotary label printing briefly, according to the performance indicators of the press need to develop, designed the size of the printing cylinder, and made mechanics analysis to the printing cylinder, including study on the distribution of printing pressure, calculation of the printing pressure and checking of roller's stiffness.Secondly, the control system of the intermittent rotary label printing was developed. The hardware options of PC and motion controller was established.Then the device selection, parameter setting and signal connection were completed. After building the hardware platform, the software portion of the the control system was modular designed and programed. The friendly interface for the control system was also designed.Thirdly, the multi-axis simultaneous control, the multi-axis coordinated motion control, and the constant tension control was analysised and researched. The multi-axis simultaneous control and the multi-axis coordinated motion control were realized, respectively through the virtual e-axis and electronic cam functions of the multi-axis motion controller Euro209. On the basis of analyzing the tension variation in printing process, the constant tension control was achieved by tension compensation through changing the phase difference of the two driving shaft.At last, the control algorithm of the system was researched. The adaptive fuzzy PID controller was designed. Modeling and simulation was made by the fuzzy logic toolbox in Matlab. The simulation results show that the fuzzy PID controller can achieve the basic function of adjusting PID parameters. After debugging the system, the overlay test was made while the system respectively adopting the conventional PID control, the PID control with feedforward compensating, and the fuzzy PID control. By comparing the output of the oscilloscope, it can get the conclusion that the stability was best, and the servo error was least when the system adopting the fuzzy PID control.
