Polycarbonate (PC) is an amorphous polymer that exhibits several distinct properties such as excellent optical performance, high glass transition temperature, good impact toughness, creep resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, and physical inertia. However, it also exhibits several shortcomings like poor wear resistance, poor processing ability, high cost and poor flame retardancy which restrict the application of polycarbonate. The incorporation of other material, such as ABS, poly(methyl methacrylate), flame retardant into polycarbonate (PC) is an efficient way to enhance the flame retardant property and improve the surface gloss property of PC alloys. Also, compatibilizers are essential to improve the poor incompatibility and enforce reaction between different domains. In this study, the mechanical properties, flame retardant property, and the surface gloss of the samples were compared. And the dynamic mechanical analysis of the blends was also investigated. The effects of compatibilizers and the different content of ABS and PMMA on the DMA parameters, such as dynamic storage modulus (E'), loss modulus (E"), loss factor (tan?) were investigated. The results show that by adding flame retardant, ABS and PMMA, the processing ability, flame retardancy and gloss property of polycarbonate alloys can be improved; and suitable compatibilizers can enhance the interactions between PC and PMMA (ABS, Flame retardant) by reducing the coalescence and interfacial tension, resulting in the enhancement of interfacial adhesion and mechanical properties.
