The atmospheric CO2 was one of the important greenhouse gases. The emission of kinds of pollutants produced by industrial and agricultural activities of human led to the concentration of greenhouse gases such as CO2 going up continuously in recent years. The greenhouse effect caused by greenhouse gases brought the global climate warming, and threatened the survival and development of the human and creatures on the earth, which drew the extensive attention of governments and atmosphere science circle all over the world. A few atmosphere CO2 online measurement methods were adapted, and the Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) CO2 analysis was one of recommended techniques by WMO/GAW.The thesis analyzed fully and deeply the CO2 measurement system which was put into use more than 10 years ago in Waliguan. According to the new requirements of the data collection, data processing and analysis of the CO2 measurement, combined with the automatic measurement system theory, a new CO2 concentration infrared observation online system was designed based on the GPIB interface technology, which not only covered all the functions of the old system but also improved the old system functions. The new system adapted the GPIB interface and communication technologies, increasing the system's portability and versatility. It took a big step to the realtime automatization in CO2 observation system.The system architecture was mainly studied and the system was designed on the basis of analyzing system requirements. The new system was developed, which included system management, data collection and processing, data management, quality control information management, etc. Especially, the data collection and processing module was developed based on GPIB technique and was adapted to IEEE-488.2 communications protocol.The new system achieved the target of the project design with a good human-computer interaction function. Finally, the system testing verified the system functions. The system was already accepted by China Meteorological Administration (CMA) with the commission from Ministry of Science and Technology. The system has been put into use in the Waliguan station. The new system runs very well.
