With the continuous improvement of people's living standards, new furniture forms emerging ceaselessly, which puts forward a higher demand for the furniture structure design and manufacture. That is, in order to accommodate the new trends of the furniture design and manufacture, it must put out new furniture forms and reduce design cycle and material losses at the same time. The domestic studies lag far behind on simulation and analysis of furniture structure, especially on finite element analysis and optimization field which remains some vacancies until now.The research took finite element analysis and optimization on furniture mortice-tenon joint by ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL) programming at first. And then processed the joint by AlphaCAM and Smart 5-axis CNC machining center. Finally, test the strength and stiffness and compared with the optimization results. So reached the following conclusions:1) Using APDL programming to make finite element analysis and optimization on furniture mortice-tenon joint can successfully simulate the actual stress and displacement state and achieve the optimal design of the joint by quantifying calculation, which provided a successful reference for the others to design furniture structure by parametric FEA method.2) The finite element analysis results combined with mechanical test proved that mortice-tenon joint size had great influence on the strength and stiffness of the joints. For the round wood T-shaped tenon joints, when tenon length ratio which was the ration of tenon length to the diameter of the mortice component was 73.7% and tenon thickness ratio which was the ration of tenon thickness to the diameter of the tenon component was 62%, the joint reached maximum strength, stiffness, minimum deformation and best stability.3) The use of computer-aided manufacturing software AlphaCAM combined with CNC machining center processed the joints with arc-shaped shoulder. The method proved that CAD/CAM technology and CNC machine tools can be used in design and manufacturing of high precision, complex and special-shaped mortice-tenon joints, which also provided a reference for processing other complicated joints.
