In this article, the process of the anchor block design is discussed in detail. The thrust calculation, size design and drawing of the gas pipelines'anchor block are grouped together by finite element method (FEM) software and programming language (such as Visual Basic programming language technology, Ansys and so on). Therefore, the design process is in close connection with practical applications, and the efficiency and accuracy are improved at the same time.In the first place, we discussed the calculation methods of the anchor block thrust systematically. The main methods are including standard method, allowed displacement method, analytical method and computer-assisted method. There are different applicable conditions for dissimilar method. We have to choose it according to the field conditions. In the second part, the progress of the anchor block size design is discussed. The main calculation content are involving passive earth pressure, the friction between block and fill, anti-slip, resistance to capsizing, the displacement in allowance, and foundation bearing capacity. Among them, when active and passive earth pressure was calculated, it is required to select the type of cohesive soil fill or cohesionless soil and the calculation of displacement shall meet the specifications. In the third part, the strength of the anchor block was analyzed by FEM. Software. We described the differences in intensity changes of a anchor block at the given parameters of the specifications of different specifications of pipeline, different soil types and others and a reasonable size for fixed-pier was given.In the fourth part, the FEM was applied for tunnel projects. Using commercial FEM software to analyze the thrust of the tunnel, a internal force and deformation specifically. And the results between different software were compared with each other. At last, a series of anchor block design of gas pipeline was combined into a simple and practical software using Visual Basic programming language for software design.This paper is based on West-East Gas Transmission Project and East Gas Transmission Project. It led to more study content are close to engineering applications. The achieved results and the software can reflect the actual profile well. Therefore, the results of this study can get promotion easily and it is worth exploring that the method based on computer programming language to improve production efficiency.
