Research involving ionic liquids has expanded considerably over the past few years due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Recently, much effort has been made to explore the application of ionic liquids in organic synthesis, not only as reaction media, but also as reusable homogenous supports, reagents and catalysts. Accordingly, our research has been mainly focus on the exploration of ionic liquids as novel reaction media in organic synthesis. Specifically,1. A new approach to synthesize 1,3,5-trimethylpyrzole was found and four novel ionic liquids were designed and synthesized according to the similarity of imidazole and pyrazole. The four ionic liquids were 2-butyl-1,3,5-trimethylpyrzolium Bromide([BTMPZ]Br), 2-butyl-1,3,5-trimethylpyrzolium hexafluorophosphate ([BTMPZ]PF6), 2-butyl-1,3,5-trimethylpyrzolium tetrafluoroborate ([BTMPZ]BF4), 2-butyl-1,3,5-trimethylpyrzolium nitrate([BTMPZ]NO3).2. These pyrazolic ionic liquids can be used in Aldol reactions as reaction media and recycled simply and conveniently due to their characteristic which is all the ionic liquids can be melted by stirring and mixing with organic compounds.3. We have found a better strategy for Aldol reactions by parallel experimentation.4. There are widely different physical and chemical properties between these pyrazolic ionic liquids because of there different anions. The four ionic liquids can accelerate the Aldol reactions of ketone and aldehyde obviously, and also can affect different reactions in respectively.
