The movements of cover rock and the distribution law are still not quite clear in mining design and implementation of rock burst seam in our country. This is the one reason why rock burst happens frequently and could not be controlled radically. As the growth of the mining depth, the regular method of rock burst control can not reach the ideal effect. The new method of rock burst control is needed, according the fully release of rock burst energy in space and time. So the key of rock burst control is changing the stress state and the pattern of energy release. This paper study the method of rock burst control by making engineering defect to control the stress state and energy release of rock mass. The main study contents as follow:1)Study defect especially engineering defect, the effect in changing the stress state and energy release of rock mass. Prove the rock burst control with defect theoretically.2)Simulate the effect of size, position and the surrounding rock property of defect in changing stress state and energy release by RFPA.3)Suggest new ways of rock burst control by making engineering defect in different areas. And receive ideal effect in coal mine site. Proved the effectiveness and the feasibility of the new method.
