Calcium maleated rosin and Magnesium maleated rosin were prepared from maleated rosin, NaOH, Ca(NO3)2, and Mg(NO3)2 by liquid-phase method. In our experiment, the optimum conditions were found by orthogonal experimental design. The structures of products were characterized by IR, XRD, SEM (with EDAX), TGA-TE. The results revealed that the obtained Calcium maleated rosin is crystalline compound. By orthogonal experimental design, the effects of the reaction temperature, reaction time and the initial concentration of calcium nitrate (Ca(NO3)2) on process conditions were investigated. And the results showed that the most effective factor was reaction temperature, the secondary was the the initial concentration of Ca(NO3)2, and the reaction time was the last. The optimum conditions were as follows: the reaction temperature, reaction time and the initial concentration of Ca(NO3)2 were 338K, 30 min, and 0.215 mol/L respectively. The purity of Calcium maleated rosin was determined by reaction molar tatio of Natrium maleated rosin and Ca(NO3)2, the molar tatio of Natrium maleated rosin and Ca(NO3)2 should be controlled between 1:1.2 to 1:1.5.And the results showed that the most effective factor was the reaction temperature, and the secondary were reaction time and the initial concentration of Mg(NO3)2.
