Behavior and characteristics of particle have become one of the important influence factors in the environment of heritage preservation. Due to the unfortunately of domestic research, there has been intense interest in monitoring the particles and reducing their impacts on heritage. In this paper, number concentration of atmospheric particles in different diameters were monitored at twelve exhibitions and the hall in the shanghai museum. Meanwhile, samples under different conditions, including seasons, working days and holidays, were collected to analyze their mass concentrations and ion composition, including Na+,NH4+,Mg2+,K+,Ca2+ F-,Cl-,SO42-,PO43-,NO3-,NO2-,HCOO-,CH3COO- and C2O42-The results showed that number concentration of particles less than 0.5μm account PM10 over 90%. The number concentration of particles around 1μm increased with the increasing of tourist number. The decoration of the galleries and ventilation conditions such as set of export would also impact the number concentration levels and diurnal variation. Number concentrations in the galleries with carpet are higher than the galleries without carpet, and number concentrations in the galleries with one passageway are higher than the galleries with two passageways. The proportion of ultrafine particles (<0.1μm) in PM10 in summer was higher than that in winter. The mass concentration spectral distribution of ultrafine particles presented seasonal variation, but the regularity was not very obvious. Most of the mass concentration of water-soluble inorganic ions spectral distribution changed little with the seasons, and modal characteristics were similar. Na+, Ca2+ was in Coarse mode, while SO42-,NO3-,NH4+ was under Accumulation mode. Holiday particle concentration was higher than usual, and some ions in the ultrafine particle increased significantly, of which CH3COO-concentration increased 7.87 times, Ca2+ increased 5.91 times and Na+ increased 4.68 times. The number of visitors had a significant impact on the part of the ion size distribution.Pollution monitor and control of particles in the heritage preservation environment should be based on fine particle, and the composition characteristics of particles needed attention.
