The preparation oxidized waxy corn starch, cationic waxy corn starch and oxidized cationic waxy corn starch was studied by using waxy corn starch as raw materials, 3-choloro-2-hydroxypropyl-trimethyl ammonium chloride as etherifying agent, hydrogen peroxide as oxidating agent, sodium hydroxide as etherifying catalyst, copper sulfate as oxidation catalyst. The better preparation conditions of oxidation waxy corn starch are the quality of mass fraction of 30% hydrogen peroxide accounted for the quality of waxy corn starch (dry basis) 33.3%, the quality of the mass fraction of 2% copper sulfate accounting for the quality of waxy corn starch (dry basis) 4.08%, pH8.0, reaction temperature 50℃, reaction time 2h. The better preparation conditions of cationic waxy corn starch are the molar ratio of etherifying agent to dry waxy corn starch 0.5, pH 10.5, the molar ratio of ethanol to dry waxy corn starch 4.0, reaction temperature 50℃and reaction time 12h. The better preparation conditions of oxidation cationic waxy corn starch are the molar ratio of etherifying agent to dry oxidation waxy corn starch 0.4, pH 10.5, the molar ratio of ethanol to dry oxidation waxy corn starch 4.0, reaction temperature 45℃and reaction time 9h.The properties of waxy corn starch,oxidized waxy corn starch,cationic waxy corn starch and oxidized cationic waxy corn starch were studied.The results showed that the paste transparence and retrogradation of oxidized starch could be increased,but retrogradation could be reduced. Cationic waxy corn starch and oxidation cationic waxy corn starch have a similar variation.Compared with the original waxy corn starch, IR spectrums of oxidation waxy corn starch, cationic waxy corn starch and oxidation cationic waxy corn starch had correspongding characteristic absorption peaks.The decolorization and floccucation properties of cationic waxy corn starch and oxidation cationic waxy corn starch.The results showed that cationic waxy corn starch and oxidized cationic waxy corn starch have a similar law on the effect of decolorization of dye solution,with the improvement of the degree of substitution,the decolorization effect increased. The oxidized cationic waxy corn starch had better flocculation performance than cationic waxy corn starch.
