At present, the textiles which have the function of water-proof, oil resistant and easy soil release are widely used in many areas, such as in garments, kitchen, army and so on. The best effect of water-and oil-repellent finishing agents are fluorine-containing organic compounds, and perfluorooctane acid (PFOA) is widely used in textile industry because of its good thermal stability, high surface activity and unique water and oil repellent properties. However, PFOA is one of the persistent organic pollutants which is the most difficult to be degraded so far, mainly distribute in blood and liver which can result in variety of toxicities, such as genetic toxicity, reproductive toxicity, immune toxicity, cardiovascular toxicity and so on. Different concentrations of PFOA were detected in different environmental mediums, human and wild animals, ubiquitous in environment as well as in human which do harm to human health and the environment, has now become a new type of persistent organic pollutant after following the organochlorine pesticides and dioxin. The limitation of both the production and use of PFOA has been suggested for the prevention of their global environmental pollution and the damage to human health. With the issue and execution of the limitation by European Union and other international organizations, more attentions on the development of monitoring and analytical methods of PFOA have been paid. However, the standards at home and abroad for quantitative determination of PFOA in textiles are very lack. The current detection methods of PFOA mainly depend on precise instrument means, such as LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS and so on. To develop high sensitivity, low cost, easy to popularize analysis methods of PFOA have realistic meanings. With the background mentioned above, determination of PFOA in textiles by HPLC-UVD has been mainly discussed in this paper. In the first of sample pretreatment research, the extraction method of PFOA in the textile has been studied. One kind of application extraction methods was proposed-ultrasonic extraction. The best extraction conditions were ensured by using extractant screening experiment, orthogonal design, and simple factor design experiments.Secondly, the feasibility of indirect determination of PFOA has been analyzed by derivatives reaction. In order to add an Ultraviolet absorption group---benzene ring on PFOA, two methods were discussed in this paper:esterification and amidation reaction. The specific parameters of derivative test were confirmed by studying derivatization temperature, derivatization time, derivatization reagent volume and so on.In the analysis aspect of ramification of PFOA by HPLC-UVD, the parameters of instrument were optimized in order to obtain effective separation and quantitative determination of target compounds. The result indicated that recovery of esterifiable ramification of PFOA were 81.27%-109.05%, detection limit was 4.19μg.l-1 and RSD were less than 4%; the recovery of amidation ramification of PFOA was 82.15%~120.77%, detection limit was 6.67μg.l-1 and RSD was less than 6%. In conclusion, two established methods of detecting PFOA have stable retention time, high sensitivity, good reproducibility and accuracy, are suitable for trace analysis of PFOA in textiles.
