The Research On Design Elements Of Baikuyao's Costume And Application Of The Elements In Re-design Process

Baikuyao costume, which is of primitive simplicity and with a long history, is the most characteristic branch of Yao costume. Mainly based on the characteristics of Baikuyao costume, this essay studies the elements of Baikuyao costume in re-design process. Baikuyao people were admitted by the United Nations Scientific and Educational Organization (UNESCO) as the best culture-retained people, called "living fossil of human civilization". And it is a people directly stridden from primitive society into the modern society. Baikuyao people are also obtained by the State Council of the People's Republic of China the "national nonmaterial heritage" award. And Baikuyao costume has extremely high value to be researched. However, studies and analysis of characteristics of Baikuyao costume are very few. Therefore, according to the unique characteristics of Baikuyao costume, this essay conducts a comprehensive detailed study on the elements of Baikuyao costume. Combined with the application of ethnic costume elments in mordern costume design, this essay studies the application of Baikuyao costume elments in re-design process, which is particularly important in the field of ethnic costume study. The study of this essay can be devided into following stages:First, Starting from Baikuyao's geographical position and its cultural history, through the geographical features and the features of ethnic life style that Baikuyao costume has embodied, this essay studis the multi-culture that Baikuyao costume shows, and explains the historical roots and cultural connotation of Baikuyao costume.Secondly, through on-the-spot investigation, this essay collects the material related to Baikuyao custume comprehensively. From the styles, accessories, patterns,colours and etc. of Baikuyao custume, this essay studies on the costume elements.Thirdly, this eassay conducts market survey on the elements application in modern clothing design. People in Shanghai and Yunnan(Kunming,Dali) are been surveyed. Through field investigation, this essay analyzes the Chinese ethnic elements in modern clothing design method.Fourth stage is the study on the method of Baikuyao costume design. Based on the analysis above, combined with the aesthetic feature of Baikuyao costume, this essay has put forward proposals for Baikuyao costume in re-design process and its design methods. Focus on the characteristics of Baikuyao costum, combined with market demand of modern clothes, this essay put forward the redesign method and reference plans.The reserch of this subject has improve the study of Baikuyao costume in the field of culture. On one hand, it has imprtant meaning for carrying forward our national costumes and save increasingly dispeared ethnic cotume. On the other hand, the re-design application of elements in Baikuyao costume is to apply the essence of ethnic costume to modern society, which has a certain theoretical research value.
