Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), called the poly-phenylene sulfide, it's a polymer with the main chain formed by the benzene ring connected to the sulfur atoms, the structure is as follow: (?)Linear PPS resin with good processing properties can be prepared of fibers which has good textile processing performance, chemical resistance, heat resistance, flame resistance, and high strength. PPS fiber is mainly used as high temperature and corrosion-resistant filter fabric, needle felt for paper making, protective fabrics, sewing thread, insulation materials, the monofilament or multifilament yarn fabrics, defogging material, etc. Currently, PPS fiber has an important use as high temperature dust filter bag of power factories, waste incineration, steel mills, cement plants etc. The general use temperature of PPS fiber is 180℃, the temperature of the exhaust emissions of these factories is 190-220℃, at this high temperature, making the mechanical properties of PPS fiber decreased, and working life is reduced. Therefore, improving the high temperature resistant performance of PPS fiber to increase its working life is of important significance.In this study, through the addition of antioxidant 1790 and antioxidant S-9228, nano-montmorillonite, nano-SiO2 in linear PPS resin, the heat-resistant PPS masterbatches were obtained, then using one step method of melt spinning-drawing to prepare heat-resistant PPS fiber. The test results of IR, TEM and DSC show that at high temperature and oxygen environment, it's prone to crosslinked and oxidized for PPS fiber to generated sulfoxide, sulfone, biphenyl, diphenyl ether, causing the color of PPS fiber became yellow, and the mechanical properties decreased. Compare with pure PPS fiber, the SiO2/PPS fiber with 1.0%nano-SiO2 not only had an excellent spinnability but also had an higher mechanical properties, the heat resistance increase significantly. breaking strength and elongation increased by 20.38%and 2.81%respectly, the heat shrinkage reduced significantly, the boiling water shrinkage and drying shrinkage decreased by 27.67%and 69.68%. Effectively increase by 50℃, the working temperature increased to 230℃, fully meeting the requirements of the use of high temperature dust filter bag.
